Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar visited Gdańsk

On May 20th the newly sworn-in Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar landed in Gdańsk with his Polish counterpart Donald Tusk. The visit to the capital of the Pomeranian region was a part of his tour of three major Polish cities.

As they arrived outside the Gdańsk’s Golden Gate, both Prime Ministers laid flowers at a memorial plaque dedicated to the late Mayor of Gdańsk Paweł Adamowicz. Afterwards they greeted people who gathered at the Długa Street and proceeded to Uphagen’s House to meet with former Polish President and Solidarity movement legend, Lech Walesa.

Following the meeting, Magyar and Tusk walked the iconic Długa Street towards Artus Court. There, both PMs met with the Mayor of Gdańsk Aleksandra Dulkiewicz. The Hungarian PM was gifted the legendary Solidarity logo from the Mayor. Peter Magyar underlined in his speech that “Gdańsk is the heart of Europe”. Donald Tusk said, “Everything that is good started in Gdańsk” and added that the Hungarian PM’s visit “in the place where Solidarity started is a very important sign”.

The visit attracted a lot of people that wanted to see how the new chapter of Polish-Hungarian relations unfolds after a new government was chosen in the recent elections.
