Tczew, situated on the Vistula River, is the largest city in the Kociewie region. Via the river, it opens up to the Vistula Fenlands (Żuławy), connecting the city to the wider metropolitan area. Tczew is one of the oldest cities in Pomerania and is currently the second-largest city belonging to the Gdańsk Metropolitan Area.

For centuries, Tczew has been located at the intersection of trade routes running from south to north towards the Baltic Sea (the Amber Route) and from west to east. The east-west route gained importance in the mid-19th century following the construction of the railway line connecting Berlin with Königsberg – the capital of the former province of East Prussia. Today, the north-south route has become much more accessible and efficient thanks to the construction of the A1 motorway, which significantly reduces travel time.

The first documented mention of the Trsow settlement, associated with Tczew, dates back to 1198. Tczew is also the city with the oldest city council in the Polish territories – city councilors are mentioned in documents as early as 1258, which is two years before the town charter was granted by Duke Sambor II.

In addition to its rich history, the city possesses numerous historical monuments that are valuable not only to local residents but also on a global scale. Historic bridges over the Vistula, fragments of defensive walls, the original urban layout of the Old Town, a Dutch (five-sail) windmill, magnificent churches, as well as a city park with an amphitheater are elements that have become a permanent part of the Tczew landscape. The Tczew road bridge is particularly special due to the technical and structural solutions applied during its construction. The American Society of Civil Engineers recognized it as an International Historic Civil Engineering Landmark (the Eiffel Tower in Paris is on the same list, among others).

The city is located near important transport corridors: the Gdynia – Warsaw railway line and national roads. The SKM commuter rail also runs to Tczew. The city is situated a short distance from cities and historical sites of international and regional significance (Gdańsk, Malbork, Gniew, Pelplin, Kwidzyn).

A well-developed and efficient infrastructure is reflected in cooperative links with the center of the Gdańsk metropolis in terms of production, logistics, services, and the labor market. Tczew is developing rapidly. In addition to favorable conditions, efficient municipal infrastructure is also the foundation for the dynamic development of enterprises. The largest companies operating in Tczew include: "Koral", Eaton Truck Components Sp. z o.o., Apator Metrix S.A., Zakład Energetyki Cieplnej Tczew, Vogel & Noot Packaging Polska S.A., Flextronics International Poland Sp. z o.o., Multipackaging Solutions Sp. z o.o., Gemalto Sp. z o.o., PanLink Sp. z o.o., Press Glass S.A., Tapflo Sp. z o.o., Vetrex Sp. z o.o., and Metrix Metal Sp. z o.o. The Pomeranian Special Economic Zone has become a driving force for local entrepreneurship, creating broad opportunities in the business cooperation sector.

The city serves as a strong service center for the residents and the economy of the southeastern part of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, providing services to the residents of the surrounding municipalities, including those within the county. The only business incubator in Tczew County operates in Tczew. This facility aims to stimulate the development of entrepreneurship by creating and facilitating the establishment or expansion of business activities.
