Poland’s and Europe’s energy security and new sources development were the main topics of discussion during the 14. National Energy Summit OSE, that took place on May 25 th and 26 th in Gdańsk.

On the heels of the historic 20th anniversary of Infoshare, the largest technology and startup festival in Central and Eastern Europe, regional leaders and ecosystem architects have officially announced the launch of Gdańsk Bay Tech. The landmark initiative aims to unite Pomerania’s rapidly growing startup community, bridging the gap between Western venture capital and the authentic, practical engineering talent of the region.

On May 20th the newly sworn-in Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar landed in Gdańsk with his Polish counterpart Donald Tusk. The visit to the capital of the Pomeranian region was a part of his tour of three major Polish cities.

Poland is rapidly accelerating its transition to clean energy, hitting major regulatory and financial milestones for its first nuclear power plant in Pomerania. Spearheaded by state-owned Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe (PEJ) in Gdańsk, the massive infrastructure project is set to transform the regional economy, reshape the local workforce, and significantly reduce national carbon emissions.

The diversification of energy sources in the region continues to gainmomentum. On May 11th, the first foundations for the Baltica 2 offshore wind farm were laid on the Baltic seabed. The project is a joint venture of PGE and Ørsted.

Gdańsk has broken ground on a 560 MW CCGT power plant that will halve regional CO2 emissions and form part of a broader grid network set to power 5.5 million households annually by 2029.
