The Kolbudy Municipality is located on the axis of the main transport route from Gdańsk to Kościerzyna (provincial road No. 221) and borders Gdańsk, as well as the municipalities of Żukowo, Trąbki Wielkie, Przywidz, and Pruszcz Gdański. It consists of 15 villages (sołectwa): Bąkowo, Bielkówko, Bielkowo, Babidół, Buszkowy, Czapielsk, Jankowo, Lublewo, Lisewiec, Łapino, Kowale, Kolbudy, Pręgowo, Otomin, and Ostróżki, along with a few hamlets (Miechucińskie Chrusty, Nowiny, Żmijewo, Gołąbkowo, Krymki). The number of registered residents has been steadily growing year by year and has already exceeded 17,000. It is estimated that the total number of people living in the municipality is now over 20,000.
Administratively, the local government is part of Gdańsk County, headquartered in Pruszcz Gdański. The administrative and service center of the municipality is the village of Kolbudy. Most public institutions are located here, including the Municipal Office, the Municipal Social Welfare Center, a post office, medical care facilities, pharmacies, the Forest District Office, the Municipal Public Library, the Municipal Kindergarten in Kolbudy, numerous shops and service facilities, a Police Station, the "Reknica" water company, and the Municipal Utility Company.
There are several primary schools in the municipality - including the Education and Upbringing Complex in Kolbudy, which features a huge gymnasium and the "Orlik" sports complex - as well as a Private Primary Music School. The Kolbudy Municipality is also the governing body for the first metropolitan school in Poland, built jointly with the City of Gdańsk and the Pruszcz Gdański Municipality. This facility, attended by young residents from these three local government areas, is located in Kowale. Preschool care is provided by both municipal facilities and private kindergartens. In the village of Łapino, there are Occupational Therapy Workshops and an Environmental Care Home for disabled children and youth, run by the Caritas of the Archdiocese of Gdańsk.
The municipality has a bus connection with Pruszcz Gdański, the seat of the county. Transport to Gdańsk is provided by PKS Gdańsk and ZKM Gdańsk (public transit). There are over 1,500 registered economic entities in the municipality, along with several organizations, including the Kashubian-Pomeranian Association, the Ecological Society, and the Industrial and Commercial Association.
A characteristic feature of the entire municipality is the dynamic development of residential construction, both single-family and high-density. On the border between the city of Gdańsk and the municipality, in Kowale, a modern multi-family housing estate has been built (with 10,000 residents), and more apartment blocks are still under construction. In the village of Łapino, set in beautiful scenery, there is a luxurious estate of single-family homes with a villa-style character. This type of housing is preferred in the municipality.
The authorities pay great attention to environmental protection. At the border of the municipality and the city of Gdańsk, near the village of Otomin, lies the old Szadółki landfill and waste utilization plant, which has a negative ecological impact. The municipality successively invests in environmental protection, cleanliness, and tourism. The local government successfully applies for European funds for infrastructure development.
The Kolbudy Municipality hosts many cultural events and recurring sports competitions that attract interest even outside its borders. The local government spares no effort in preparing an attractive offer for both the youngest and the oldest residents. For the youth, numerous extracurricular activities are organized to increase physical activity, along with summer and winter camps. Children and teenagers have the opportunity to hone their talents during art workshops operating within the municipality. Kolbudy also features a well-equipped sports stadium with tennis courts and the "Orlik" sports complex. The local government does not forget about its oldest residents, for whom the Senior+ Club was created. It hosts numerous workshops and activities that integrate this age group, and the number of participants demonstrates the huge demand for this type of offer.
It should be emphasized that the Kolbudy Municipality has long enjoyed the reputation of a wealthy municipality. In terms of income per capita, it has held top positions in county and provincial rankings for years.
