The Subkowy Municipality is divided into 11 sołectwa, each with its own distinct tradition. Its proximity to the Vistula Fenlands, as well as convenient connections to the larger cities of the metropolitan area, make the municipality a wonderful place to live.

The name of the locality in its current form has been in use since the 18th century. Previously, the village was referred to as Sobków, Schobków, Szobków, and Sobkowy. The name Subkowo is mentioned in a document from 1675. It derives from the founder or owner of the village, Sobek, Subisław, or Subiesław, a Pomeranian duke and the founder of the Oliwa Monastery.

A key asset of the Subkowy region is its excellent soil, which is why the foundation of the economy in the Subkowy Municipality is agriculture, favored by both natural conditions and existing traditions. The municipality is located in an area of outstanding agricultural value comparable to the Vistula Fenlands. Agricultural land accounts for about 80% of the total area. The leading sector is crop production - the cultivation of cereals, mainly wheat and triticale, rapeseed, and sugar beets. The largest companies operating in the municipality include: "Agros", "Litawa", "Latocha", and "Fregata".

The most scenic part of the municipality is the edge of the Vistula River Valley, with the Church of St. Adalbert situated on a hill in Gorzędziej. The village is famous for its sanctuary established in 1995, currently the resting place of the saint's relics. The parish itself was probably founded even before 1280. According to a local legend, St. Adalbert of Prague stopped at the site of the present church in 997. The Czech clergyman, along with his companions, traveled by river on a missionary expedition to Prussia and, after spending the night in a tent on the banks of the Vistula, preached the Gospel to the local population.

While visiting the municipality, it is worth seeing the historic manor and palace complexes in Rybaki, Radostowo, and Mały Garc. The palace in Rybaki dates back to the early 20th century when it was established as a residential estate closely connected to the farm's outbuildings. The size of both the manor and the farm buildings testifies to great wealth and a high level of agricultural development.

Picturesque landscapes and proximity to nature encourage outdoor enthusiasts to use the two tourist trails passing through the municipality: the Lower Vistula Valley trail and the R. Klim Tczew Land trail.

The Subkowy Municipality maintains international cooperation with German municipalities in Lower Saxony: Steimbke and Heemsen. Thanks to this partnership, the Volunteer Fire Department in Subkowy acquired a fire engine free of charge.

During the summer, a youth exchange program is also organized. This provides an opportunity to learn about the culture and traditions of Western Europe. During their stay in Germany, international competitions for youth fire brigades are held.

The transportation accessibility of the municipality is improved by the routes crossing its area: National Road No. 91, Provincial Road No. 230 Wielgłowy - Pelplin, the A1 Motorway, as well as a main railway line serving both freight and passenger traffic.
