The Trąbki Wielkie Municipality is located on the Gdańsk Upland, 30 km from the Tricity, at the intersection of provincial roads 222, 226, and 233, which lead from Kashubia and Kociewie to Gdańsk. It already has over 11,000 residents, with more arriving every year. In each of its 25 sołectwa, you will find picturesque corners, beautiful nature, rich history, peace, and opportunities for recreation, as well as attractive areas for investment.
GOOD LIVING CONDITIONS
We care about providing excellent living conditions for our residents. Children attend a kindergarten and five primary schools equipped with preschool branches and gymnasiums. Residents have access to three health centers, the Caritas Rehabilitation, Education, and Care Center, and three public libraries. Seniors spend their time actively in 11 senior clubs. Fire safety is ensured by five volunteer fire departments (OSP). You can enjoy beautiful views from a kayak on Lake Małe Mierzeszyńskie or on a bike using the cycling path along provincial road 222, as well as the trail on the former railway embankment connecting Sobowidz with Pszczółki. In Sobowidz, a tower awaits with a view of Lake Sobowidzkie. The richness of nature in our municipality is evidenced by the "Dolina Kłodawy" forest reserve, three Natura 2000 areas, and twenty-three natural monuments including trees and boulders. Golf enthusiasts must visit Postołowo, which features a world-class 18-hole championship golf course spanning 100 hectares. Horse lovers have several stables at their disposal. If you wish to stay overnight in the Trąbki Wielkie Municipality, you will find a vacancy in one of our several hotels.
HISTORY
The moraine landscape of our municipality is home to beautiful historic churches in Mierzeszyn, Sobowidz, Kłodawa, and Trąbki Wielkie. The Marian Sanctuary in Trąbki Wielkie houses a painting of Our Lady of Trąbki, crowned by Pope John Paul II. Meanwhile, in the church in Mierzeszyn, Hans Memling's "The Last Judgment" was hidden during World War II. Mierzeszyn is also associated with Father Jan Paweł Aeltermann, a martyr of WWII, and Zygmunt Bukowski, a well-known folk artist, sculptor, and writer. In Zaskoczyn, in front of the local Forest Care Home (DPS), stands an original sculpture titled "Motherhood" by Josef Thorak. In Gołębiewo Średnie, the border guard building on the former border between the Second Polish Republic and the Free City of Danzig still stands today. Ełganowo and Trąbki Wielkie were strong centers of the Polish community during the interwar period, associated with the "Macierz Szkolna" (Polish Educational Society) and figures like Kunegunda Pawłowska and Anna Burdówna. Graniczna Wieś features two important sites: a memorial to the victims of the Grenzdorf Camp - a branch of the Stutthof Concentration Camp - and the site of the execution of the Polish activist Alf Liczmański. In Kłodawa, near the Neo-Romanesque church, you can admire a historic polychrome statue of St. John Nepomucene. In Sobowidz stands a palace built on the site of a medieval castle. This castle was an important administrative and economic center, hosting Grand Masters of the Teutonic Order such as Konrad von Jungingen and Ulrich von Jungingen, as well as the King of Poland, John II Casimir.
WE ARE DEVELOPING
We successfully secure external funding for the development of our municipality. Thanks to these additional funds, we have built and renovated village community centers, municipal roads, sanitary sewage systems, and a wastewater treatment plant, as well as organized cultural and entertainment events. In 2020, we commissioned a wastewater treatment plant and a sewage network for the Sobowidz agglomeration, for which we secured nearly 20 million PLN (gross) in EU funds.
Thanks to the modernization of provincial road 222 (Gdańsk - Starogard Gdański) in 2019, the Tricity bypass, the A1 motorway, the Gdańsk airport, Kashubia, and Kociewie are even closer to us. Since 2012, we have shared our hospitality and all our local assets with our German partners from the municipality of Markt Uehlfeld in Middle Franconia. As part of this cooperation, we organize youth and resident exchange programs. We also care about a good climate for business development; companies such as Oceanic, Voestalpine, and the Gdańsk Window Factory (Gdańska Fabryka Okien) operate here.
WE KNOW HOW TO HAVE FUN
Our municipality hosts events such as the "Trąbka w Trąbkach" feast, during which we break the Polish record for the most trumpet players performing together, the Lang Team bicycle marathon, the "Jajcarnia" motorcycle festival in Sobowidz - which hosts over 4,000 motorcycles and enthusiasts every year - the "Tropem Wilczym" run, and the Archdiocesan and Local Government Harvest Festival.
