Applications Open for the Fahrenheit Scholarship in Gdańsk

GDAŃSK - The recruitment for the Fahrenheit Scholarship is officially underway. Created by the Mayor of Gdańsk in cooperation with the Fahrenheit Universities (FarU), the program invites top-tier international PhD students to undertake a one-year research internship in northern Poland.

Named after the Gdańsk-born world-class physicist and engineer Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit, the scholarship reflects the city’s vision as an open, ambitious metropolis that heavily invests in science and international academic collaboration. The initiative is also supported by the Pomeranian Voivodeship Self-Government.

What the Scholarship Offers
Designed to attract young scientists preparing their doctoral dissertations abroad, the program selects the three best international candidates and provides them with comprehensive support to pursue their scientific interests at leading Polish universities.

Successful applicants will receive:

  • A one-year research internship at one of the Fahrenheit Universities.
  • The opportunity to conduct advanced interdisciplinary research as part of their PhD dissertation.
  • A tax-free monthly scholarship of PLN 6,500 (net).
  • Travel cost reimbursement up to PLN 6,500.
  • Free accommodation provided for the duration of the stay.
  • Invaluable international experience and networking opportunities.

Application Deadline: June 15, 2026

Results Announcement: September 20, 2026

Internship Period: January 1 – December 31, 2027

Who Can Apply and How?
The proposal is aimed at young scientists from abroad who are currently preparing a doctoral dissertation at their home university, have authored or co-authored a scientific publication, and wish to expand their research horizons. The intern's local supervisor in Gdańsk must be a researcher or academic teacher with at least a doctoral degree employed at one of the Fahrenheit Universities.

At the application stage, candidates need to indicate the host university in which they plan to continue their research as part of their doctoral dissertation and support the university during that time.
