On Tuesday, June 9, 2026, the Economic Development Commission of the Gdańsk-Gdynia-Sopot Metropolitan Area (OMGGS) convened in a renewed composition and with a new operational framework. Representatives of local governments, science, and business have established a two-year work calendar centered around innovative analytical reports and close cross-sectoral collaboration.

The METREX network for metropolitan professionals has reached its 30th anniversary, and from June 10 to 12, 2026, its spring meeting took place in Helsinki. This event brought together experts and officials from European metropolises under the main theme: "From Polycrisis to Multi-benefits – Promoting Holistic Sustainability in Spatial Planning." Throughout the conference, participants focused on answering how to balance rapid climate change and biodiversity protection with ongoing urban growth.

Poland’s and Europe’s energy security and new sources development were the main topics of discussion during the 14. National Energy Summit OSE, that took place on May 25 th and 26 th in Gdańsk.

On the heels of the historic 20th anniversary of Infoshare, the largest technology and startup festival in Central and Eastern Europe, regional leaders and ecosystem architects have officially announced the launch of Gdańsk Bay Tech. The landmark initiative aims to unite Pomerania’s rapidly growing startup community, bridging the gap between Western venture capital and the authentic, practical engineering talent of the region.

On May 20th the newly sworn-in Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar landed in Gdańsk with his Polish counterpart Donald Tusk. The visit to the capital of the Pomeranian region was a part of his tour of three major Polish cities.
